Title: Good Omens Pdf

There is a distinct hint of Armageddon in the air. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (recorded, thankfully, in 1655, before she blew up her entire village and all its inhabitants, who had gathered to watch her burn), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, the Four Bikers of the Apocalypse are revving up their mighty hogs and hitting the road, and the world's last two remaining witch-finders are getting ready to fight the good fight, armed with awkwardly antiquated instructions and stick pins. Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. . . . Right. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan.

Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon -- each of whom has lived among Earth's mortals for many millennia and has grown rather fond of the lifestyle -- are not particularly looking forward to the coming Rapture. If Crowley and Aziraphale are going to stop it from happening, they've got to find and kill the Antichrist (which is a shame, as he's a really nice kid). There's just one glitch: someone seems to have misplaced him. . . .

First published in 1990, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's brilliantly dark and screamingly funny take on humankind's final judgment is back -- and just in time -- in a new hardcover edition (which includes an introduction by the authors, comments by each about the other, and answers to some still-burning questions about their wildly popular collaborative effort) that the devout and the damned alike will surely cherish until the end of all things.

What if the Antichrist was raised as a regular kid? Nature or nurture? That’s the question at the core of this funny take on the coming of the apocalypse, written by two masters of humorous speculative fiction—the late Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. The end of days is coming. What if the anti-Christ responsible for seeing it through had been switched at the hospital and was raised as a normal kid? Would he be evil enough? If not, how would the apocalypse play out? After a chapter that shows the reader the mix up at the hospital, the bulk of the book takes place over a few days that are supposed to be the last few days of humanity. There’s an extensive cast of characters including the “gang” of Adam the anti-Christ, the four horse-persons of the apocalypse, angels and demons, witches and witch-hunters, and other sundry characters. However, the characters that most carry the tone and message of the book are Crowley (a demon) and Aziraphale (an angel.) With these two, the authors inject some Taoism into an otherwise Biblical world. That is to say, pure evil and pure good are rarities; there’s always a bit of good amid the bad, and vice versa. Aziraphale can be grumpy, and Crowley’s proclivity to be mischievous has its limits. Being in similar positions, the two bond as low level managers working for Coke and Pepsi might get on because they face similar demands and have similar complaints about management.Running through the book are mentions of a book called, “The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch.” This witch’s prophecies are quite unusual in that they are invariably correct, and yet are specific. That is, the prophecies aren’t “right” in the sense that astrologers are often “right” by making vague statements that offer no disprovable propositions. This might lead one to believe that the book would be a marvelous guide for making predictions. However, there is still the issue of having been written centuries ago. Items like automobiles and cellphones, that play a major role in life today, were unfathomable. Furthermore, it’s usually not clear who, exactly, a given prophecy applies to. In short, the medieval writing style results in the fact that the prophecies usually only make sense after the fact.I’d recommend this book for readers of humorous speculative fiction. Finally, a book about the Apocalypse, not just the post-apocalypse!! After reading lots of post-apocalyptic stories, it's nice for me to read one about the apocalypse. Good Omens tells the story of the coming of the Anti-Christ. Everyone who is in the know assumes it will be just like the book of Revelation. In the know are two angels (one working for Heaven and the other for Hell) as well as the four horsemen of the Apocalypse (who kill time before meeting up with the Anti-Christ at Armageddon by causing trouble for people). The ineffable plan of God is about to come to fruition, time is on the verge of ending. But the plan goes awry. Crowley (Hell's angel, who used to be called Crawley because he was the snake who tempted Adam and Eve out of Paradise) is supposed to swap the infant son of Satan for the son of an American diplomat, but there's a mix-up in the nursery that goes unnoticed. Aziraphale (Heaven's angel, who gave his flaming sword to Adam and Eve when they left Paradise because it was about to rain) has an agreement with Crowley. They have both been living on the earth long enough to have an affection for humans and all the neat stuff they have invented. Most importantly, they've started to latch on to free will, not only trying to get people to do good or evil on their own, but also starting to do a bit of work for each other when it's convenient and not too obviously contrary to their superiors' orders. Things are complicated for the angels. The real Anti-Christ was raised as a normal child called Adam Young. He has some strange influence over other people but is basically a good boy most of the time. He has a group of friends in his small English town who play the usual games and are opposed by another group of local kids, a rival gang if you will. Also in the mix is Anathema Device, a young women descended from Agnes Nutter, a seventeenth century witch noted for her accurate (though obscure) prophecies. Those prophecies involve the end times and her family members. The predictions are hard to interpret before the fact, however, so she runs around a bit trying to put two and two together before the world comes apart. All this might sound like a serious drama, but in the hands of Pratchett and Gaiman, it's much more of a mad cap adventure. Crowley and Aziraphale are buddies trying to keep things going a little bit longer on earth. If the plan is really ineffable, who's to say the world isn't supposed to end now? The book has the dry, British sense of humor found in Douglas Adams's works or Monty Python. It is quite delightful and had me laughing out loud in several spots.Highly recommended. Also, I read this because Julie and Scott discussed it on A Good Story is Hard to Find podcast. Check out their fun comments!Tries waaaay too hard to be "wacky" I can't understand all the great reviews for this novel!? I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan, so I was expecting a lot when he teamed up with his well reputed friend, Pratchett. Prachett is very well known for his "Discworld" series, which I was planning on getting to eventually, but I'm not so certain now. This book tries way too hard to be "wacky". There is no naturalness to the flow of the humor. Speaking of which, there is no naturalness to the pivotal character, "the anti-christ".They write "Adam" and his three friends extremely poorly. They write them as how adults, who haven't seen a kid since they were one, think a wacky pack of seven year olds might act (they are eleven, but the authors put them at the maturity level of seven year olds).I'll give the first "Discworld" novel a chance, but if starts off with the same tone as this book, I'll put it down very quickly.BTW, some people are comparing the humor in this book to Douglas Adams??? I don't see where. It doesn't even resemble poorly done Douglas Adams work.

Title: Summoner Pdf

Gryff never knew he was the most powerful summoner in the world until a rogue monster attacked his village.

Now, he's been recruited into the top magical academy, beautiful women are breaking down his dorm-room door, and the headmaster has big, big plans for him. Instead of summoners being maligned by society, Gryff is in a position to make them revered and honored.

There's just one problem: The most powerful fire mage in the academy wants to protect the status quo and will do anything to stop him.

This novel has harem elements.

Not to my taste. This is the “story” of a teenager on hormones. Nothing more. I realize that some people might like hollow main character with little to no story. I don’t.Two books, Two Stars I read both books in the series, i had issues with the first one but I've been devouring books for the last week so i bit the bullet and got book 2 to see if things were going in the right direction. Nope.I'll do my best to avoid spoilers but there may be a couple light ones, nothing big about the story though (which is part of the problem)First is the characters, they are kinda meh. I've seen worse, i will say some of them do have potential though i dont see the author dragging it out of them. Gryff himself is boring, your typical male Mary Sue. Things come easy, people like him, good looking smart, etc etc.The author writes in the description about harem elements and that the women break down his door. There are some sexual related scenes in the book that dont really add anything and could easily be removed. The women in this universe seem to be pretty open about sex and relationships but that is never gone into at all.Which is a problem with the series so far as a whole. The magic is obviously a central part of the story with what ytou can do mattering to people, but it isnt until the last quarter of book 2 when you get some info on how people get which magic. Though even that is far from enough to flesh it out.The biggest issue though, and it incorporates a lot aspects in the series, is that there is no direction. 2 books in and there is no goal. There is no big enemy or disaster, no trials or tribulations. Gryff just goes through his days one step at a time, the series has no direction or goal, and without that what am i reading for?

Directing the Story Pdf

ISBN: 0240810767
Title: Directing the Story Pdf Professional Storytelling and Storyboarding Techniques for Live Action and Animation
Author: Francis Glebas
Published Date: 2009
Page: 346

"Francis Glebas has put together a really comprehensive and thought-provoking look at the art and craft of film making, specifically directing. His approach, which is to ask a lot of seemingly innocent questions, has much the same effect as the good storytelling he is trying to teach us.it draws us in and makes us think. I can't imagine anyone, in or out of our business, who won't find any number of helpful ideas as they work their way through the filmmaking jungles!!"--Roy Disney, Director Emeritus and consultant for The Walt Disney Company "Francis Glebas was one of our most talented storyboard artists at Disney, and it was our great fortune to have him on the story team. He has a wealth of experience to share."--Jeffrey Katzenberg, CEO, Dreamworks Animation"A veritable bible of visual storytelling techniques and advice. Loaded with pictures, the book is set up like a storyboard for the material she wants to convey. Covering everything from why we watch movies to the most effective ways to build and maintain drama, she teaches how to keep your audience riveted to the screen. And if you're worried that you may not have the drawing chops to create good storyboards, don't worry - she's on it. Even if you can't draw a straight line, she teaches how to use whatever you've got, the barest minimum of drawing skills, to create the most effective boards you can imagine. Ever wondered why you look where you do on the screen? It's not a coincidence, the director is pointing your attention in very specific directions. Glebas doesn't just tell you how to direct the eye, she explains the why of it - how our brain works and how the director plays with those elements to convince us that what is taking place on screen is real; and not just real but urgent and dramatic. The book covers everything a director needs to know in order to prepare the storyboard for an effective and memorable film. All you have to add is your story! Highly recommended for the following areas of study: Animation, Theatre, Film Studies at the high school, college, and university levels. And it's a must buy for libraries that collect texts on these subjects."--Animation World Network.comFrancis Glebas worked as a story artist for Disney Feature Animation on Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dinosaur, Treasure Planet and Hercules. He also directed Pomp and Circumstance starring Donald Duck in Fantasia 2000 and Piglet's BIG Movie. Francis is also an award-winning independent live action movie maker with almost 40 years' experience. He currently teaches storyboarding at Gnomon School of Visual Effects. Francis also works as a creative consultant, having worked with the Irish Government, Korean Government, General Motors, Los Alamos Labs, Walt Disney Imagineering and other film studios.

Francis Glebas, a top Disney storyboard artist, teaches artists a structural approach to clearly and dramatically presenting visual stories. They will learn classic visual storytelling techniques such as conveying meaning with images and directing the viewer's eye. Glebas also teaches how to spot potential problems before they cost time and money, and he offers creative solutions on how to solve them.

* Uses the classic story of '1001 Arabian Nights' to show how to storyboard stories that will engage an audience's attention and emotions.
* With 1001 drawings in graphic novel format plus teaching concepts and commentary.
* All of the storyboarding examples have a real project context rather to engage a very visual audience on their own terms and teaches through demonstration.

Really nice book, helps me cause it goes into depth ... Really nice book, helps me cause it goes into depth about alot when it comes to storytelling for animation. I feel like I can put what i've read into practice through here and begin my animation studio. Although I have much to learn, this is a great buy.GRATE BOOK! I LEARN A LOT! Directing the Story clarify to me simple questions I had about filmmaking... What the directors do? How some one do actually direct and design a film? The author answer that questions clearly and without technical-complicated language. It is important specially if you are an aspiring filmmaker with no previous training. It will help you having a big picture of the art of visual storytelling, to speak to the audience. After reading this book you will see movies differently. Though, as in any art craft, practice is the key but it is better when you have an idea of the path you have to walk.I recommend to reed this book along with two others: the Invisible Ink and The Golden Theme by Brian McDonald. Two enthusiastic thumbs up Note the title is about directing the story, not directing the movie, and the emphasis is on the story. The goal of this book is to help you get your audience "lost in the story" of your movie. It details a lot of professional directing techniques and principles to help aid storytelling. The writing is clear and Francis Glebas even storyboarded a whole short story to serve as an example, in addition to the many examples already provided.Using storyboards as a primary tool, he goes through the various storytelling techniques used in films , like ways to pace/cut scenes, introducing themes and story structure subtly, directing the audience's eyes, creating characters people can related to, etc. Francis Glebas then breaks down these high level concepts into many smaller easy-to-understand points to focus in depth. One particular point to note is the version of "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights" Francis Glebas has storyboarded to provided as an example throughout the book. All the techniques he teaches are used in the storyboard for that story. It ends with cliffhangers in every chapter. The story is absorbing even though it's done in sketches. Goes to show that story is still king. This book is for anyone who wants to direct professional stories. It should be made compulsory reading in film schools. Two enthusiastic thumbs up from me.For more reading, I would recommend Ideas for the Animated Short, which goes even further in depth with storytelling techniques. Bad stories shouldn't have excuses.(More pictures are available on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

Sibel Hodge is the international bestselling author of multiple thrillers including Look Behind You and DuplicityThe Disappeared is a twisty and suspenseful mystery thriller which will appeal to fans of authors like Caroline Mitchell, Mark Edwards and John Marrs.

OK Read This was an OK read. Certainly not the gripping thriller I was hoping for, but still not a yawn and effort to complete. It is the story of exploitation in the fictional country of Narumbe in West Africa where cocoa beans are produced.Dr Mason Palmer who has been working at a health clinic in the plantation area becomes aware of the corruption and slave labour (including children) to produce the sort after bean in the production of chocolate in the west. When he attempts to leave Narumbe, his plane crashes and he is assumed dead.Back home his wife doesn’t suspect foul play until she receives a photo of Mason through the post, along with a cryptic message. Her attempts to find out what happened to him lead from one tragedy to another and she is forced to elicit the help of her criminal uncle Charlie. Three and a half stars.Inspired While this book is considered fiction, there are a lot of truths revealed . When one thinks of chocolate, it is usually a sweet thought. It is hard to imagine the dirty little secrets behind the scenes. I hope this book helps bring the awful truth to the forefront.Couldn’t put it down! My first thought after completing this book was this would be a great movie! It kept me interested from start to finish. I literally felt like I was “reading a movie” as the chapters jumped back and forth between the different settings and characters which it what kept me glued to the pages. After the end of a cliffhanging chapter, the next chapter would take you to a different part of the story in a different setting so all I wanted to do was get through that chapter so I could get back to where the previous chapter left off. That was a consistent pattern throughout the book which is why I couldn’t put it down. The story itself was gripping, emotional, realistic, and satisfying all at the same time. This was my first Sibel Hodge book but I do plan on checking out her others.
